The Federation meeting in New Orleans,
May 2007. Federations Board Members and attendees.
The Federation meeting in Portland, Oregon, Oct 2007 at the AAAOM annual meeting.
State of the States reporting on issues in their respective states.
Welcome to the FAOMRA website. Since it's
inception in 1999, FAOMRA has strived to meet its purpose as a forum for state regulatory agencies
to come together in a collegial environment to discuss regulatory issues and common regulatory
problems. On a biannual basis, FAOMRA addresses issues unique to individual states that may have an
impact on a national level.
We have come a long way, addressing the need for reciprocity/licensure by endorsement, developing a
list of common national regulatory standards and maintaining an open environment where states can
come together to discuss the impact of common issues.
PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS:
Federation of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine Regulatory Agencies
October 2007
The Federation is alive and doing well. As we are maturing our infrastructure keeps evolving and improving; Anna Hansen has made tremendous changes to our web site improving our capacity to reach the public and regulatory consumers, Frank Ervolino, Ronda Bryant and Penny Heisler have developed a marketing data base, and materials for outreach to other regulatory bodies who may not yet know of the Federation or it's value to them. Penny Heisler and I are going to participate with the NCCAOM Regulatory Affairs Task Force and will attend the first meeting this Saturday, Frank Ervolino and I were part of a wonderful team representing the major national organizations which produced the final draft from ACAOM'S Doctoral Task Force which has been released and subject to public comment (there will be an open comment forum tonight for those who are interested), Ronda Bryant has put together the meeting minutes and been a constant shepherd to those have accepted responsibilities and duties.
This past year has been one of return, consolidation and renewed commitment to the larger body of the profession and to the public. The possibility for the future is bright and we will find our place to step in and contribute. Future goals continue to be;
- Commitment on the part of regulators to safe guard the public through;
- Maintaining minimal educational standards for professionals.
- Disciplining practitioners and sharing those experiences.
- Educating practitioners about safety issues as they arise as well as informing the public.
- We must reach out more to our practitioners and help them understand their scope of practice and responsibilities to reduce unnecessary misunderstandings with patients and other professions.
- Portability has been and continues be to one of our greatest challenges to the growth of our profession.
- Assisting the profession make the likely transition to a entry level first professional doctorate degree and helping regulatory bodies manage transition.
- Increase participation of regulatory bodies in the Federation.
With the newly emerging AAAOM and the migration to annual meetings I am confident that with commitment, patience and persistence we can increase participation in the Federation to meet the challenges before us.
